PBO’s FREE Children's Vision Screening Training Program has been revised to meet the new standards published by the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health and is approved by the Ohio Department of Health.

Participants who successfully complete all aspects of the training may be eligible to receive free vision screening equipment, valued at $930, which includes the 5’ VIP Lea for screening visual acuity, the PASS2 for stereopsis screening, and the Good-Lite ColorCheck for color deficiency screening.

In compliance with Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health’s Stay at Home Order, all Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate (PBO) in-person children’s vision screening trainings are not being held at this time.

PBO has developed an online children’s vision screening training (pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade) for the July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 period.

Through a grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Health (Save Our Sight Fund), Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate offers free evidence-based training, certification and equipment for individuals who screen children in preschool through first grade.

We have two modalities through which we provide this training, online and live virtual.

Our children’s vision screening training program has 3 parts:

  1. Register for the training.

  2. Complete all 6 course modules of the children’s vision screening training and pass the 5 tests following them either on your own time through the online format or at one of our live virtual trainings.

  3. Complete your individual skills assessment.

Upon successful completion of the PBO training, you may be eligible to receive free vision screening equipment (a $930 value) that includes:

  • VIP single, crowded LEA symbols Visual Acuity screening test at 5 feet

  • Preschool Assessment of Stereopsis (PASS 2) for screening stereopsis

  • Good-Lite ColorCheck Color Vision Screening plates
