The Prevent Blindness vision screening certification program requires that vision screeners trained and certified by Prevent Blindness America and/or Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate, must re-certify after a period of three years from the date of their initial training and certification.

Please read the guidelines below to determine whether you are eligible to take the online vision screening recertification exam.

After taking the appropriate test, please take some time to review our reporting requirements for certified screeners, as they may have changed since your original date of certification.  Click here to go to the reporting page.

OPTION 1: NO SCREENINGS CONDUCTED

If you have not conducted any vision screenings since being trained, you must participate in the full, original 5-hour training program.  Select the button on the right, "Upcoming Trainings" to find a training.

OPTION 2: SATISFACTORY NUMBER OF SCREENINGS CONDUCTED

A satisfactory screening level is defined as a minimum of:

  • 3 vision screenings, and

  • 100 children screened during the three years that the individual has been certified, and

  • at least 5 of the 100 children screened were referred for professional eye care.

If you meet these requirements, you will be re-certified after successfully completing the online True/False Certification Test. The tests will be automatically emailed to Prevent Blindness for scoring and a new certification card will be sent from Prevent Blindness America.

Take the test below if you conduct screenings in a child care, Head Start, public preschool or health department.

OPTION 3: UNSATISFACTORY NUMBER OF SCREENINGS CONDUCTED

If you completed vision screening training and certification but have not met the criteria for Satisfactory Number of Screenings listed above, you must take the full online recertification exam.

If you successfully complete the recertification test, you will receive a new certification card from Prevent Blindness America.
